Gene characterization training at Max Planck Institute for Chemical ecology, Jena Germany

Our PhD student Rajarajan Ramakrishnan have visited one of our collaborator Prof. Jonathan Gerschenson’s department in the institute.

The co-operation this year focused on characterizing the identified pheromone producing genes from bark beetle, Ips typographus. The training took place for 4 weeks (November 2021), under guidance of Dr. Axel Schmidt, scientist exclusively known for such specialized gene characterization in the respective research field. Findings from this training have brought knowledge to our department for further gene characterization using bacterial cells in related research. Also, this work will be continued next year to find a novel gene function proposed in the recent publication (Ramakrishnan et al., 2021). Result of this study might lead to target gene specific interference, thus control over bark beetle aggregation on spruce vegetation.
